Obituary of Winston Garrett

Winston Ray Garrett, 73, passed from this life on March 30, 2013. He was born on May 11, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Stewart and Mattie (Holcomb) Garrett. Winston grew up and attended school in Columbia, Louisiana. In 1956 he joined the Air Force and served for eight years. Over the years he worked several jobs but was most proud of the years he worked as an EMT in Caldwell Parish. Winston married Lucille (Smith) Garrett of Columbia, Louisiana on July 13, 2001. They were happily married for thirteen years and enjoyed together a hobby of raising and training Yorkshire Terriers and remodeling homes. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies Elbert Lee Pauley, Charley Wyant, and Mike Brown. Winston is preceded in death by his late wife Sheaby (Reed) Garrett, happily married for 36 years; his parents Stewart and Mattie (Holcomb) Garrett; his daughter Brenda Taylor; his siblings Milton Garrett, James Garrett. Glen Garrett, and Madie Garrett. Winston is survived by his spouse Lucille Garrett of Olla, Louisiana; his daughter Darlene Reynolds of Henderson, Tennessee; his step-daughters Kim Howard, Linda Bennett, Sam Rider, Veronica Rider, Lisa May, and Hannah Rider all of Grayson, Louisiana; his step-sons Billy Rider, Heath Rider, and Joe Rider all of Grayson, LA; his brothers, Charley Garrett of Dawson Springs, Kentucky and Billy Garrett of Nashville, Arkansas; his sisters Vera Rankin and Daisy Fuqua of Columbia, Louisiana and Hazel Cox of Glenwood, Arkansas; his grandsons Davin Reynolds and J. D. Travis, a number of step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Olla with Pastor Donnie Boney officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, April 1; from 4pm until 9pm at the church located on Highway 165 South in Olla. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson, under the direction of Riser Funeral Home, of Olla. Pallbearers will be Elbert Pauley, Gary Watts, Roger Cox, Brandon Nugent, Jason Bratton, and Dallas DeMoss. Online registry/condolences: riserfuneralhomes.com
