Obituary of George Hutchinson
George Ronald Hutchinson of Monroe passed away April 4, 2013 after a brief illness. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 3pm from the sanctuary of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Monroe with Dr. Tim Neustifter and Dr. Warren Blakeman officiating. Interment will be in the Columbia Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2pm until time of service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Seegers Hutchinson; his sister Gladys Para of Othello, Washington; his son Douglas Hutchinson and wife Terry of New Braunfels, Texas; his daughter Liz Cartwright and her husband Pete of West Linn, Oregon; grandsons Andrew Cartwright, and Zachary Cartwright and wife Meredith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his in-laws E.W. and Dorothy Williams, and Sidney and Carolyn Seegers, all of Monroe; step-daughter Martha Salomon and her husband Rene Salomon of Baton Rouge; and step-grandchildren Roth and M'Elise Salomon of Baton Rouge, Clay Mouser and wife Rebecca of Columbia, Missouri; and Ryan and Kathleen Kinlin of New Braunfels, Texas.
George was born December 18, 1931, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to parents George Clement Hutchinson and Mildred Kohlhagen Hutchinson, both deceased.
He grew up in Washington State and is a veteran of the U.S. Airforce, having served in the Korean Conflict in Air Sea Rescue.
He graduated in 1959 from University of Washington, and received a Masters in Architecture from Texas A & M in 1971.
He was a former general contractor and a construction consultant. He started the Construction Management program at the University of Washington and served on the faculty of Texas A & M University and at the ULM School of Construction from 1978 to 1982 and again from 1989 until his retirement in 1995.
He was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Constructors, was a member of the Monroe Rotary Club and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and served as a volunteer at the Monroe Symphony League bookroom.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Monroe, or to the Monroe Symphony League.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Mouser, Roth Salomon,Bruce Williams, Stewart Shelby,Will Shelby, and Scott Shelby.
