Obituary of Clayton "Buckshot" Stapleton
Funeral services for Clayton "Buckshot" Stapleton, age 89 of Columbia, LA will be held at 2 PM Thursday, November 7, 2013 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jerry Wayne Hendrixson officiating. Interment will follow at Belah Cemetery in Jena, LA.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia from 5 PM to 9 PM then again Thursday 12 PM until time of service.
Mr. Stapleton affectionately called "Buckshot" by family and friends was born in Jena, LA on August 24, 1924 to the union of Willie James and Ella Susan Corley Stapleton and went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Columbia, LA.
Buckshot worked for LaDOTD for 48 years before retiring. He worked in District 58 then it was moved to the Chase District. He enjoyed many things in his life including any type of football, Braves baseball, Community Coffee and was a cowboy at heart. What he loved the most was his family and friends. He wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of and made sure his family was well with his Saturday morning calls. He was a man who loved greatly and was greatly loved by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lottie Sharp Stapleton; sister, Ola Mae Windham and six brothers: John Wesley Stapleton, Lee Stapleton, Vines Stapleton, W. Earl Stapleton, Harvey Stapleton and Arthur Stapleton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Steve Stapleton; two daughters: Jane Bennett and husband, Earl and Diane Scroggs; sister, Mary Weaver; seven grandchildren: Hope Scroggs, Chasity Hill and husband, Jay, David B. Scroggs and wife, Michelle, Tamara Whilhite and husband, Danny, Heath Bennett and wife, Ashlee, Brook Stapleton and Jessica Stapleton and nine great-grandchildren: Mallory Dannehl, Alexis Buckalew, Triston Scroggs, Daylyn Scroggs, Payton Scroggs, Sloan Whilhite, Madeline Whilhite, Katelen Bennett and Reagan Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Jay Hill, David Scroggs, Triston Scroggs, Luther Ray Stapleton, Danny Stapleton, Chuck Stapleton, Walter Mack Stapleton and Sloan Whilhite. Honorary pallbearers will be James Stapleton, Johnny Stapleton and all of his LaDOTD coworkers.
