Obituary of Gladys Cruse
Funeral services for Gladys Marie Cruse , age 97 of Summerville will be held 2:00 PM Sunday December 22, 2013 from the sanctuary of the Summerville Free Methodist Church with Rev. Harvey Glenn Roark and Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Interment will follow at the Chickasaw Cemetery at Summerville under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Visitation for Saturday Dec. 21 will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home in Olla, and on Sunday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Gladys Marie (Carr) Cruse was born on April 27,1916 at Bruton, Alabama to the union of her parents, John Clinton Carr and Pearlie Mae Guthrie Carr ; and she passed from this life on Thursday December 19, 2013 at her residence at Summerville. Mrs. Cruse was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Elmo Alton Cruse, and by her brothers and sisters: Austin Carr, L.T. Carr, J.C. Carr, Talmadge Carr, Lessie Norred, Luther Carr, Edd Carr, Jim Carr and Lenora Price. Mrs. Cruse was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and this was evidenced in her life as she strove to help those around her. She retired as Head of Housekeeping with Hardtner Medical Center in Urania after twenty one and a half years of service. She retired at age 79. Mrs. Cruse had lived a full life and enjoyed every aspect of her life, from supporting her family in sports activities, fishing, gardening, and anything that involved the great outdoors. She was known for her wonderful breakfast she fed to any and all deer hunters who conjugated at her house every hunting season. She was loved by all who knew her and will always be missed.
Left to cherish her memory: Two sons: Carl Cruse and wife Genette of Onalaska, Texas and Dennis Cruse of Olla; three daughters: Mattie McCarroll of Summerville, Johnnie Bethard and husband Jess of Jena, and Barbara Weathers of Summerville; her brother: Billy M. Carr of Colonial Beach, Virginia; her very special pet and companion, her cat, "Maw Cat"; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael McCarroll, Trey McCarroll, Buddy Bethard, Dusty Cruse, Rusty Cruse, Lance Bethard, and Lake Edwards. Honorary pallbearers include: Jeff Cruse and Tony Cruse.
