Obituary of Irene H. Crockett

Funeral services for Irene H. Crockett, 72, of Columbia, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday December 29, 2010 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jimmy Goodman officiating. Jamie Stapleton will do the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Columbia Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Irene was born May 9, 1938 to Simion Alonzo and Essie Porter Hendrix in Monroe and she passed from this life on December 26, 2010 at the St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe. She was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church in Clarks. She was a retired nurse of 43 years and she gave of herself selflessly. She loved reading and being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years: Harrel C. Crockett; her parents; two brothers: S.L. Hendrix and Roy Hendrix; two sisters: Opal Vessel and Lorene Hendrix. She is survived by three children: Jimmy Crockett and his wife Cara of West Monroe; Lorene Broussard and her husband Butch of Crawfordville. FL; Kim Girod and her husband Bryan of Grayson; two brothers: James and Bobby Hendrix; two sisters: Ruby Canterbury and Ruth Hart; sisters-in-law: Sarah Jane Lowery and Jonette Whisanant; six grandchildren: Kyle Crockett, Hannah Crockett, Molly Girod, Amy Crockett, Chris Broussard, and Traycer Girod; one great-grandchild: Ava Ply. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Hendrix, Michael Stapleton, James Girod, Eric Benson, Matt Gates, Dave Smith, and Benji Patterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Malcom Hart, Tommy Hart, Ricky Hart, Chris Strickland, and Alan Lowery. The family would like to send a special thanks to a longtime friend, Mildred Smith.
