Obituary of Ida Adams
Services for Ida Monty Adams, age 93 of Columbia will be 10 AM Friday, July 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Columbia with Rev. Eric Harriman officiating. Interment will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 4 PM to 8 PM at First Baptist Church in Columbia and Friday, July 11, 2008 from 8 AM until time of service. Ida Adams was born in Friars Point, MS on April 7, 1915 to the union of Italian immigrants, Hilarius "Eli" and Josephine Barbieri Montaguti of Bologna, Italy, and passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Mrs. Adams was a graduate of San Antonio Chiropractic College. Her husband and she moved to New Orleans and established a chiropractic clinic there. While living there she attended Mid City Baptist Church and there accepted Christ. In 1956, she and her husband relocated to Columbia where she became very active at First Baptist Church, serving on various committees including her favorite, the flower committee. She also taught Sunday school for several decades and was a faithful servant and prayer warrior. She was active in community and civic organizations including the Council on Aging, Senior Olympics, Mental Health Association and served as past president of the Caldwell Parish Garden Club, where her passion for flower arranging won her numerous outstanding awards. She also worked for many years in retail business in Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 38 years, Maurice Jackson Adams, and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include her son; Monty Adams and his wife, Janine, grandson; Monty Adams Jr. and his wife, Kim, granddaughter; Amy Flint and her husband, Russell, great granddaughter; Andie Janine Flint, sister-in-law, Marie P. Adams all of Columbia and several nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves two very special friends in her caregivers, Evelyn Griffin and Agnes Butler. Pallbearers are Monty Adams, Jr., Russell Flint, Peter Adams, J. Blake Adams, Jr., Curtis Adams and Gary Richardson. Her love of flowers was surpassed only by her love of God, family and friends.
