Obituary of Wilma Gilbert

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Douglas Gilbert age 90 of Haughton, LA will be held 2pm Tuesday May 31,2011 graveside at the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson with services under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Born Wilma Edna Douglas on September 3,1920 at Grayson, LA she passed from this life on Friday May 27,2011 at the Guest House in Shreveport. She was born to the union of Wesley Douglas and Equilla Douglas and she married the love of her life Glen W. Gilbert on March 4, 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Mrs. Gilbert was a Graduate of Northwestern State University, and after obtaining her Degree in Education she taught High School English at Grayson High School, and then at Fair Park, Booker T. Washington, and Woodlawn High Schools in Shreveport. She was a true "teacher" and a changer of lives as can be attested to by the many people whose lives she changed. She leaves a lasting legacy of love. She was one of those rare people that never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and truly lived for her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shreveport. Survivors include: Her daughter: Glenda Lee Gilbert McCraw and her spouse Jim Thornhill. Her son: Michael Gregory Gilbert and his spouse Margaret. Her son: Timothy Wayne Gilbert and spouse Jan. Her grandchildren: Phillip Kuperman, Alan Kuperman, Ginny Gilbert, Michael Gilbert, Clay Gilbert, and Ben Gilbert. Her great grandchildren: Bryan Kuperman and Emily Kuperman. Her brother: George W. Douglas and wife Verna. Pallbearers include grandsons and a great grandson.
