Obituary of Dorothy Hillestad

Funeral services for Dorothy Milks Hillestad, age 91 of Columbia, will be held at 1 PM Thursday, May 1, 2014 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home, Columbia with Father James Nellikunnel officiating. Interment will follow at Old Bethel Cemetery, Clarks, LA. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 AM until time of services at 1 PM at Riser Funeral Home, Columbia. Mrs. Hillestad was born on August 21, 1922 in Huron, SD to the union of William and Emma Fonda Milks and passed from this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, LA. She was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church of Columbia. She was a homemaker, but for a short period was a bookkeeper for her family owned store. Her hobbies include birdwatching and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kayleen Benson; brothers: John Milks and Richard Milks; sisters: Mary Clemo and Beverly Mighen and son-in-law, Roy Tharp. Survivors include her beloved husband of 73 years, Ingvil Hillestad of Columbia; son, Roger Hillestad and wife, Flora of Columbia; daughter, Shirley Tharp of Monroe; son-in-law, Glynn Benson of Clarks; nine grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren and special friends: Wilbur and Betty Jo Hillestad and Linda Garrett. Pallbearers will be Steve Hillestad, Jeremy Hillestad, Tommy Tharp, Eric Benson, Trey Hillestad and Madison Tharp. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrin Hillestad, Coal Hillestad and Trinity Hillestad.
