Obituary of Catherine Whitten

Funeral services for Catherine Childress Whitten, age 89, of Columbia will be held 1:00 pm Thursday October 23, 2014 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Harrell Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery at Clarks. Visitation will be on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 8:00pm. Catherine Eugenia Whitten was born on November 17, 1924 in Caldwell Parish to the union of her parents, James and Eva Black Childress; and she passed from this life on Tuesday October 21, 2014 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Gordon E. Whitten, Sr, by her daughter: Glenda Wyant, and by eleven brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory, her son: Eddie Whitten of Grayson; two sisters: Francis Fisher of Columbia and Viva Carter of Grayson; six grandchildren: Tommy Whitten and wife Jennifer, Gena Richmond and husband Jonathan, Keith Whitten, Cathy Krnavek and husband Joe, Matthew Wyant and wife Lea Ann, and Melissa Jurk and husband Tom; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
