Obituary of Sr. Etheredge

Elmer Leon Etheredge, Sr., age 80, passed from this life on January 27, 2015 at Hardtner Medical Center of Urania, LA Leon was born on December 7, 1934 in Caldwell Parish to the union of Elmer and Estelle Collins Etheredge. Leon was a member of Pinehill Baptist church where he served as a deacon. Leon was a member of the 1951 LaSalle High School Baseball State Championship team, as well as, a member of the football team. He was a 1953 graduate of LaSalle High School in Olla, LA. Leon made his lifelong career working for Zapata Offshore in the oilfield. Leon is survived by his wife, two weeks short of 60 years, to Jerry McCartney Etheredge; two sons: Leon Jr., and Rickey of Olla; daughter, Cheryl Ruddell of Olla; two grandchildren: Nathan Ruddell and fiance', Rudi Aycock of Olla and Hannah Ruddell of Olla. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, S.L. Etheredge. Pallbearers will be Glen Henderson, Justin Hines, Ethan Wells, Josh Sims, Mike Gilliam and Mike Dunn. Honorary pallbearers will be the Urania Knotheads. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 from the sanctuary of Pinehill Baptist Church with Bro. Edward Smith officiating and Bro. Warren Maxwell delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Pinehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at Pinehill Baptist Church from 5 PM to 8 PM.
