Charlie retired from Flint Ink Company after thirty-three years of hard labor. He was a loving husband, daddy, brother, and uncle, and he loved to raise a big community garden and always kept his yard mowed. His favorite things to do were fishing and hunting, but he made sure his garden was worked first of all. He was also a great basketball and baseball player at Enterprise High School, and he never stopped his love of sports. He spent many years working with kids at the ballpark, coaching and umpiring. Charlie was also a member of the Caldwell Parish School Board for seventeen years and adult Sunday school teacher for many years at Holum Baptist Church. He spent the last four months fighting to recover from major illness, in and out of the hospital and rehab with his faithful wife by his side. He finally begged to go home, and was so happy his last and only day back home, watching the birds and cats on his front porch, going with his son to look at the river, and watching his grandson's baseball game at the end of the day. Charlie went to be with the Lord on April 3rd-Good Friday, after all his family was able to tell him goodbye until we all meet again some day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles Murphy and Lillie Mae Cassels; grandson, Joshua Shane Duke; granddaughter, Hillary Caroline Duke; brother, Murphy Ray Cassels and two brothers-in-law, Herman Wiles and Tollie Volentine.
