Mrs. Murphy was born on February 14, 1925 in Hebert, LA to the union of Lawrence and Laura Brandin Rogers and passed from this life on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Haven Nursing Center, Columbia, LA. Leona was a true saint of God, a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church and loved unconditionally everyone that she knew. When Leona arrived at the Heavenly gates she was met by her beloved husband of 54 and a half years, Earl Murphy. They were always side by side while here on Earth and have now been reunited to spend eternity together worshiping the Lord. She was also greeted by her parents and sister, Louise Maxwell. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Roger Murphy and wife, Kay of Hebert; two daughters: Linda Owens of Hebert and Pam Murphy of Monroe; grandchildren: Lori Owens, Chuck Owens, Lane Owens, Gale Owens, Jonathan Murphy, Amy Whitecotton and Leah LaCaze; thirteen great-grandchildren with another to arrive shortly; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Murphy, Aaron Morales, Seth Morales, Kolby Owens, Brandin Owens and Holden Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Murphy, Hayden Owens, Todd Whitecotton, Pierre LaCaze, Allen Maxwell, Louis Rogers, Clint Owens, Chuck Owens and Lane Owens. Any planned memorials may be made to the Duchesne Cemetery, c/o Citizens Progressive Bank. The family would like to thank the faculty and staff, especially Debbie Dale, at Haven Nursing Center for their love, care, and consideration given to Leona during her stay there.
