My father, Andrew Stamper, was a mechanic at Gartman's for about 40 years (starting in the 1940's). One year when I was a little boy, Daddy's back "went out" when he was bent over the hood of a car at work. Mr. Gartman allowed him to stay off work with pay for as long as it took for him to be able to do physical labor again. He repaid that generosity with 40 years of service. I am the only one in the family still alive to express our sympathy for Miss Billie's death, but know that everyone would be sad to know of her passing.
