Obituary of Sr. Garner

Services for James Virgil Garner, Sr. will be held 2pm Wednesday from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Rodney Sanders and Rev. Rick Crandall officiating. Interment will follow in the Hebert Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 am until time of services. Mr. Garner was born on November 22, 1932 in Richland Parish to the union of Charlie Leonard and Rosa Lee Duchesne Garner. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and after service went to work for the United States Postal Service and retired after thirty eight years of service. He was an active member and ordained deacon of McClendon Baptist Church in West Monroe. He was currently employed with Limousines Unlimited in West Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson: Marcus Garner. Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Myrtle Bamburg Garner of West Monroe, his son and daughter-in-law: James and Ceseley Garner of Frisco, Texas, his daughters: Linda Garner Monceaux of Baytown, Texas, and Lisa Parent and husband: Russ of Monroe, his sister: Shirley Mullenix and husband: George of Hebert, his brothers: Wilbur Garner of West Monroe and Ernest Garner and wife: Marie of Belton, MO, his grandchildren: Summer Joy Garner, Ryan Monceaux, Jamie Monceaux, Matt Garner, Grant Garner, Gabriel Parent, and Vaughn Parent. Pallbearers include Ron Barfield, Joe Allbritton , Troy Allbritton, Glenn Leshe, Ed Turnage, and Mike Moye.
