Obituary of Gerald Proffer

Graveside funeral services for Gerald Donald Proffer, age 70, of Olla, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Chickasaw Cemetery in Olla, LA with Rev. Joe Aguillard officiating. Donald was born March 23, 1945 in Clarks, LA to the union of his parents, Winifred and Dottie Proffer and he passed from this life on August 19, 2015 at his home in Olla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Polly Ruddell Proffer; a son, Shad Proffer; and his brothers: Buddy Proffer and Delbert Proffer. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Kay Hays and husband, Stephen; step-son, David Nichols and wife, Jenny; grandchildren: Christopher Hays, Matthew Hays, Hunter Hays, Madison Proffer and Dawson Nichols; great-grandchildren: Caden Hays, Katy Grace Hays, Mattie Hays and 2 more on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. Donald enjoyed his work as a mechanic for Lassiter Logging. He was a talented wood craftsman and an avid hunter. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
