Obituary of Melvin "Sol" Carter

Funeral services for Melvin Gene "Sol" Carter, age 73 of Columbia, will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Riser Funeral Home, Columbia. Burial will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery, Grayson. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Riser Funeral Home, Columbia from 5 PM to 8 PM. Sol was born on October 24, 1941 in Jonesville, LA to the union of Robert Richard Carter, Sr. and Lantie Virginia Corbin Carter and passed from this life on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his residence. He worked as a carpet layer through his life and served honorably with the US Army. His hobbies included playing dominoes, hunting, fishing and was generous in his own choosing. He was preceded by his parents and his siblings: Edward Earl Carter, Charles Mitchell Carter, Bertie Mae Carter and Judy Lane Williams. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Charles Mitchell Carter and Lynda Carter; siblings: Robert Richard "Shorty" Carter, Jr. and wife, Lillie; James Alex "Booster" Carter and wife, Edna; Ella Louise "Sister" Ray; John Paul "J.P." Carter; Mary Lou Blackshire and William Hardy "Pete" Carter and wife, Helen; grandchildren: Kateland Nicole Carter, Logan Turnbo and Blake Burnaman and two special loves, Georgie Carter and Bonnie Carter. Pallbearers will be Paul Carter, Dwayne Carter, Jason Carter, Henry Carter, James Sanderson and John Sanderson.
