Obituary of Lelon L. Kenney

 

With deep sadness and regret the family of Lelon Kenney announces his death June 18, 2018 in Caldwell Parish. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church. There will also be a visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, west of Columbia under the direction of Riser Funeral Home.

 

Lelon is survived by his daughter Sherry Kenney, granddaughter Katherine Petterson Pruitt (Clay) and great-granddaughters Elle and Sawyer Pruitt; sister-in-law Clarice Kenney, nephew Jimmy D. Kenney (Jodi), grandnephew Billy Colton Kenney and special family member Rickey Dixon.

 

Preceding him in death were his wife Loretta Kenney, parents Bud and Lucille Kenney, daughter Pam Kenney and brothers Billy and Bruce Kenney.

 

During his work career Lelon was involved in farming and ranching. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying our woods, lakes and streams with a host of family and friends at his hunting and fishing camps.

 

Dedication to public service was a central focus of Lelon's life. He was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau Organization, serving in several capacities. He held memberships on the Caldwell Parish Industrial Board and the Bayou De Chene Reservoir Commission where he was currently serving as Chairman. He was also serving as Chairman of Homeland Bank Board of Directors.

 

Lelon began his political career by serving on the Caldwell Parish School Board followed by service on the Caldwell Parish Police Jury. He was elected as Louisiana State Representative District 20, serving Caldwell, Catahoula and Franklin Parishes in January, 1996. He served continuously until December, 2007. While in the Legislature he served on the Education Committee, Environmental Quality Committee, Agriculture and Forestry Committee.

 

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Hall, Rickey Dixon, Bobby Brown, Wilbur Rucker, Bobby Ryan and Gary Rider. Honorary pallbearers will be John Thomas Boyd, Homeland Bank Board of Directors and Kenney Hunting Camp members.
