Kay was a dear friend, among the first people to extend a welcome to me when I arrived in Ruston twelve years ago. Her lively voice and lovely, expressive face remain in my memory. Kay told the best humorous stories, often about teaching, and I will remember them too. She lives on through her son and granddaughter, certainly, but Kay also lives on through the lives of the many students whom she taught and inspired, and who are better people, not just better writers, because of Kay.
